Robert Schoch and Diffusionism

Hi - haven't been here in a long time.

I picked up Schoch's "Voyages of the Pyramid Builders" recently and I have to say I'm pretty impressed with the argument he's presenting as I approach the halfway point in the book. Any thoughts on the whole diffusionist question? I'm still in two minds on it but Schoch's evidence seems pretty persuasive. I'm especially fascinated by the evidence for trans-oceanic contact on both coasts.

BTW - volunteering at Cahokia this summer. Can't hardly wait!

I've got to read that one of these days.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed.

The “Pro” argument has always been simply that they exist.

The “Con” argument has been the different styles (smooth surface vs. stepped) and different purposes.
Old world pyramids were tombs while New world were temple support buildings.

But now we are finding burials in the New World ones.

Personally, I find them to be just another piece of evidence for trans oceanic travel in pre-historic times.
The so called “Age of Discovery” following Columbus was really an Age of Rediscovery.
(Very few historians mention that Columbus refers to consulting maps on his first journey logs.)
